Jacob and I started dating in April 2009 when I was 15 and he was 16. We had been together for almost 6 years by the time he proposed. I was ready to say the least…
Jacob’s family and I left for Hawaii on December 29, 2015 to the island of Kauai. On New Year’s Eve, we all went to a party at the Saint Regis Resort. The whole night was spent laughing, sipping champagne, and tearing up the dance floor – we had a blast! Five minutes to midnight, Jacob looked at me and said, “do you trust me?” which I obviously said yes to so he quickly grabbed my hand and led me off the dance floor down stairs to the outside balcony overlooking Hanalei Bay. The view was breathtaking with the incredible mountains hugging the coast and the waves gently rolling into shore.
While looking out at the beautiful scenery, we talked about how amazing the past year had been and how much had changed. As midnight drew closer, we reminisced about when we met – New Year’s Eve 6 years ago. That’s when his whole posture changed and I knew. He said, “I know we’ve been dating for a long time and nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you”. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked the question every girl dreams of hearing. I died. I covered my mouth as tears ran down my face then of course nodded my head and said YES.
As he stood up, we hugged and kissed and heard cheers from his family standing on a balcony in the distance who had witnessed the whole thing. It was perfect. About five minutes after the shock, I finally looked at the ring, died again, and he put it on my finger. It was honestly a dream come true.

That night I didn’t sleep for 1 minute. I was way too excited and giddy to sleep!! When it hit 6am I shot up out of bed and continued looking at my new ring in sheer disbelief and called the rest of my family and friends to tell them the news. Once everyone else woke up, the girls got together and already started talking wedding ideas: when, where, dress, colors, etc. That was our last day in Kauai, and our next stop was a short 20 minute flight to Oahu.
This was my first trip to Hawaii, and definitely not my last. The whole trip was a whirlwind and felt like a daydream.
